Winter of 2008

This has been quite a winter! Definitely one to remember. It reminds me of the winters when I was a kid. I don't know if that is because there was more snow back then or if it is because I was a lot shorter next to the snowbanks! I will admit it - I love all the snow. I can only say this because I haven't had to shovel it or blow it or drive very far in it. Even so...I know it sounds crazy but during these big storms - like the one that hit Sunday - I sit wide-eyed at the window in my PJs like a little kid and watch the snow come down. I get all excited when I watch the news and the weatherman is wearing his white coat and is anxiously predicting how many inches we are expecting to get. This winter has been especially eventful - storm after storm after storm. One for the books! Here's some photos for memory's sake.

We inherited an idustrial size snow blower from Grandpa Great and Wes was so disappointed last year when we never got enough snow to use it. Not so this year! That blower has been put to good use. Wes tried to teach to me how to use it - that thing is so complicated I would need at least three more lessons before I could even turn it on! I should get some pictures of that beast sometime. But it is probably better that I don't get involved. I don't think my snow removal would live up to standard. Wes prides himself in getting his driveway absolutely clear and dry. He hates it when we have to drive on the snow before he can shovel it and the snow gets all packed down. One of his pet peeves (OCD Hmmm?). The other day he got a little distracted from the driveway and started to blow the snow into a big pile on the back lawn. Yes - he got it in his head that he was going to make a snow cave (not the first one this year!). He piled the snow in the morning and then went back out - in the dark - after the kids were in bed - and dug it out. Here's the cave (I will have to get some better pictures of the inside):

The cave was formed right around our backyard swing!

The girls sat happily eating snow while I snapped away

Emily! I can't believe all the snow -- I personally HATE snow and am so mad that the stupid groundhog saw its shadow because winter is extremely over-rated! I think winter should be over on Jan. 1st. Seriously!! I LOVE your blog and getting to hear/see what you're up to!

I am so extremely jealous that I am not up there to experience this year's record snowfall!! All I can claim is some frost on my windshield this morning--that's pretty huge for Phoenix. Enjoy it!!!

I used to love the snow. And I agree with you. This winter is more like the days of yore. Much more snow. I love that you are such a fine example to me of making the most of snow (and Wes). I do love watching it fall from my kitchen window, when I am inside and I don't have to drive in it. What a fantastic snow cave! Isn't it grand to be married to someone who is so precise about snow removal?

Oh, man! Look at that snow! We've hardly have any. We see our lawn--all of it--all sad and dry and withered.
We had snow over the weekend which left a dusting. That dusting was gone by Monday.

I have mixed feeling I guess. It is much prettier than last year and I love that the snow has been on the ground for so long. I am just a little tired of shoveling all of it!!!!

I can't believe all that snow! We've only had one snow of the season and it only lasted for about 2 1/2 days before melting. It looks like paradise to be out playing in. You're making me really wish for a good ol' fashioned white winter. Amazing!

Okay, we have had no even real storms in comparison. Indiana weather is so different from Utah. We have heard lots about your storms, thanks for the great photos!
