Laser Coldplay

Another recent craze at our house...laser pointers.  And yes they are driving the cats crazy.  But this is a new and improved laser pointer.  It comes with five projection caps that create cool designs with the laser beam.  Isaac used his own money to buy the green one.  It was such a hit that a day later Addie ordered the purple one and Cate ordered the red one.

Last night for family home evening, Isaac gave us a Laser Coldplay concert (remember Laser Floyd and Laser Zeppelin?  We took Isaac to Laser U2 several years ago).  We had our doubts but it turned out to be a great show!  I am a fan of these laser pointers after all - if used for cool things like this:

Cate and Sarah were the dancers

 Addie couldn't resist joining in

Then it turned into a rock concert

And Isaac finished off the show as the lead singer

Thanks for the awesome laser show!  I can't wait to see it in green, purple AND red!
This would be a great gift idea...

What We Are Watching...

Ever wondered how contact lenses are made? Or toothpicks? How about panyhose? Aluminum Foil? From carpets to grocery carts and everything in between - the show How it's Made will show you how these things are made from start to finish. Wes and I used to loved this show back when we lived in Pennsylvania. 9 years later Addie discovered it streaming on Netflix. Now it is a favorite at our house!  Sadly - it is only available for instant play - you can't rent the DVD.  Maybe it's on hulu?  Who knows?

We don't watch much TV.  In fact we have probably watched more TV in the last month than we have watched in the last six months!  Why?  Well we are American Idol fans and so we watch that when we can.  But I talked Wes into watching the first season of Downton Abbey with me (I figured I could use a refresher) so we could enjoy the second season together.  That way I wouldn't be sitting on the couch every night all by myself.  Somehow Isaac got hooked so now he watches it with us.  And of course Addie is a fan too.  We finished the first season last night and are ready to dive into season 2.

If you are Downton fans and don't take it too seriously.  Be sure to watch this spoof.  Pretty funny.

We have a lot of British accents around our house these days...

Addie Composes a Song - For Real This Time

Addie composed this song.  Her teacher recorded it at her piano lesson.  She still needs a title.  Any suggestions?

SJ Turns Five!!

My baby turned five years old and I took a ridiculous amount of pictures at her Valentine-themed party we celebrated with both sides of the extended family.
Trying to take pictures of Sarah is always an interesting experience. The many faces of SJ:

The crying was not related to the picture taking.  She had a little "accident" during the party and refused to go change.
 The Party:

Sarah received many wonderful gifts!  One of the most unique presents was this dinosaur terrarium from Grandma and Papa.

Sarah loves animals and loves to act like an animal.  When she received these "cheetah" pants - she immediately put them on and had to run like a real cheetah.

 There she goes!
Quote of the night:  During dinner Sarah said "I have 4 grandmas at this table!" Eliott said, "Am I a grandma?"  Sarah replied, "No!  You're a boy!  Only the wrinkly girls are grandmas!"

Oh I love this child!
Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!

School Days, School Days...

A few school-related things to remember:
Another science fair has come and gone.  This year Isaac teamed up with a friend to find out which brand of hand warmers work best.  They had a lot of fun and did a really great job!  Ever wondered how hand warmers work?  I have!  The hand warmers are filled with iron shavings (along with a few other key ingredients) - and when exposed to oxygen the iron oxidizes - or rusts - and that chemical reaction releases heat.  Pretty cool huh?
What were their results?  It doesn't matter what brand you use.  They all worked about the same.  What matters is that you expose the hand warmers to air and then keep them in an enclosed space - preferably with a second hand warmer until they heat up.  There you go!
They even made handwarmer necklaces to wear.

They put four handwarmers in one glove together and it heated up to almost 170 degrees!
Isaac has been studying land forms in social studies and sculpted the Delicate Arch out of salt dough.  Wes took the picture outside for effect.
Addie has been taking a 3-dimensional art class at school and was assigned to sculpt someone in action.  She created someone rock-climbing.

Cate was lucky enough to have Grandma Jan visit for "Grandparents Day" at the book fair.  It was a luau theme and they were able to play games, read books and get their picture taken together.
Many fun things are happening at school these days!
