Mother's Day
Here are many, many pictures from our Mother's Day celebration. It was a lovely day!
The weather was mild and I was lucky enough to enjoy a quick nap before "the troops" arrived (as my mom likes to say).
Here are some of "the troops."
There was plenty of kitty cuddling...

He just had a cornea transplant but that didn't hold him back from tetherball!

And of course it wouldn't be Mother's Day without incredible desserts. My brother Kip made this chocolate angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream and strawberries. It was absolutely divine and you can find the recipe on his food blog.
I made this lemon poppy seed cake and it wasn't an "incredible dessert" but it does have the other thing that marks Mother's Day for me: violets. This was my attempt at continuing my mom's tradition of making sugared violets.
Violets were also scattered across the fruit plate
It would not be Mother's Day for me without violets. Violets remind me of my mother. She also loves violets. These are original Clark violets transplanted from my childhood home to my current yard. I guess you could call them "heirloom violets." And I will cherish them always - because they remind me of my mother.

Darling photos! You are becoming quite the photographer, Emily. In fact, once again, I hope you don't mind, but I'm stealing the photo of the chocolate angel food cake for my blog. Anyway, thanks to you and Wes for being such great hosts. We all had a great time!
How pretty are those violets? Nice touch and I may have to take that idea into my own hands.
Your kids are simply stunning. Just beautiful. Lucky mom, you!
Ahhh, violets. What a wonderful way to be connected to you mom. I remember in HS coming up to your house when the violets were in bloom, and being so amazed by how beautiful they were.
Wonderful photos of some of my very favorite people. I love what you said about your mom at the luncheon.
