Interesting...
My sister-in-law sent me a link to an article in the L.A. Times - "Kids most likely to spend a lot of time texting and on Facebook, among other networking sites, may be more well-adjusted, studies suggest." Unfortunately I am a skeptic and I rarely take things at face value - especially when I read the phrase, "studies show..." or "experts say...." However I really would like to believe we could have confidence in the findings of these studies. I have tried really hard to not get too caught up in the condemnation of the technology that "kids these days" have embraced - cell phones, texting, Facebook, etc. (not sure about video games, though). I use all of these things and I find them quite useful. Anyway - I don't have much to base my opinion on because my kids don't use cell phones or Facebook - but this article gives me hope for when the inevitable occurs!
Check it out!

I think that your open-minded attitude is a good one. If it is used wisely and not to excess, technology is a wonderful tool to stay in contact with people, learn about the world, solve problems, etc. This article raises some interesting issues.
I think of it as "Kids who own and use cell phones more likely to be able to call mom if something goes wrong with their ride to soccer practice."
I'm not sure where I stand. Personally, I feel like I am addicted to checking email, facebook, blogs, and just the web in general. I don't like it, although like Kip says technology is a wonderful way to stay in contact, learn about he world, etc.
I read this article (online of course) http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/07/technology/07brain.html?pagewanted=1&ref=general&src=me
You should read it and tell me what you think. I think there has to be a happy medium. But how do you find that happy medium, as the technological pull becomes stronger and stronger and more and more pervasive in day to day functioning?
