The Fourth
Tradition dating back decades dictates that our July 4th celebration starts with the parade. My kids wouldn't have it any other way.
We have sat in the same place ever since I can remember. And the responsibility for the "seat saving" has passed on through the generations. It used to be my grandma and her sister Iris who (well into their 80s) would be up at the crack of dawn with their lawn chairs and puffed rice balls holding down the fort until the rest of the clan arrived. The number of attendees has dwindled over the years but some of us are still hanging on!
After the parade it is off to the family picnic. My mom decided on a whim to make Snoopy cookies for the occasion. On a whim! Another long-standing tradition in my family, these cut-out cookies are very time consuming. There is no cookie cutter. There is a cardboard template that is placed on the cookie dough and traced around with a knife! I relished every ear and tail that I ate!
Let the games begin!
The serious bocce players
Cate tossing the horseshoes
Two sisters cheering everybody on!
More onlookers
The winning team in action!
The relays are always a hit
After the picnic we cooled off with some homemade ice cream and swimming at Kip's clubhouse pool.
all in all - a very festive fourth.

That was really hard to read. I SOOO wanted to be there! I made Patrick promise that Provo on the 4th is MINE every year from now on. He, sweetly, came home and booked hotel rooms in Provo for next year--yipee!
What a fantastic fourth! I heard the weather was awesome. Sorry I missed out on this one.
Those cookies are amazing, and I love the photo of SJ from the back. Very sweet!
Those cookies! What fun.
made those cookies on a whim! Wow! They were sooo cute. That was fun on the 4th of July! We did miss those that were not there though.
