Putting Up My Trims

That is my mom's phrase for putting up Christmas decorations. It's that time of year again! I can't believe it. As much as I love the Christmas season - the lights, the carols, the snow, the magic in the air - I was kind of dreading starting the 3-4 day process of "putting up my trims." But I reluctantly pulled out the the boxes of decorations from the basement (actually, Wes pulled them out for me) and to the delight of my children - started decorating for Christmas. (How and when did I end up with 7 boxes of Christmas decorations!?)

It's not only me. Wes also knew that this year the inevitable was coming - he would have to put up Christmas lights on the house. (Or else we would be the lonely dark house on the street like last year. Me: "Wes, are you going to put up lights on the house? It's already got hooks on the gutter, an outlet on the roof that can be controlled by the indoor light switch. This house is totally rigged for lights." Wes: "We have only lived here for a few months - we can get by this year without having to do lights. We have a good excuse!" Me: "Please...!" No lights went up and what was I to do? I was 8 months pregnant!) This year, he put up a couple of strings of twinkly white lights and even though we are surrounded by icicle lights on all sides, I think they look lovely!

As Wes knows all too well, I am not a "project" person. I don't really do crafts and I know myself too well to attempt a project that involves too much time and energy. But I ran across these at Big Lots (one of my favorite stores) and I thought I could add some fresh greens and lights and use them to make my front porch more festive.

This how they turned out. I wish I could do a better job at hiding the cords. They are kind of small but cute.

So it has now been 4 days and I am still surrounded by the boxes but at least a few of them are empty. I put up most of my "trims" today (I don't know what fills all those boxes because I really don't have that many Christmas decorations). Once I get everything cleaned up, I will take and post some pictures. The tree is still to come...
Ok, I'll admit it. I really do like to decorate once I get started.

We still just have the tree. I've been procrastinating the rest....so much work. I hate projects too.

How do you hand the ornaments from the ceiling? Do you use fishwire? tape? I want to do it this year but don't know where to start...

My boxes are ALSO still sitting in the middle of the room. ;-) I bet your house is beautiful..
