You know it is Christmas when Saturdays are filled with ward Christmas breakfasts, two recitals, and an office party.
Our Saturday began at 8:00 am with our ward Christmas breakfast. Yummy food, good friends and cute Primary children singing Christmas songs. Blustery and cold outside but no snow.
The rest of the morning I spent with Addie and Cate taking out curlers, doing hair, putting on make-up, dresses, costumes, jewelry, etc. - all getting ready for Addie's vocal recital. Addie has been taking singing lessons from my friend, the amazingly talented Mindy Smoot Robbins (maybe you have seen her down at Tuacahn?). Addie had prepared to sing a solo - The Star of Bethlehem with Cate and my amazingly talented sister Amy, dancing behind her. We were all anxious and nervous - even me and I wasn't even doing anything!
12:00 pm and off to rehearsal. It was a blizzard of wind and snow at this point. Dad stayed home to take Isaac who opted out of the recital to attend a friend's birthday party.
2:00 pm the recital starts with an almost full row of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other family there to support Addie and the dancers. We are so grateful for such wonderful family!!! Even though the recital lasted 2 hours (!) - it was worth every minute to hear Addie's performance. She looked so lovely and poised and sounded like an angel. And Amy and Cate danced sweetly and beautifully - it brought tears to my eyes. I felt horrible we didn't have a better camera to capture the memory.
4:30 pm Home to relieve the babysitter and pick Isaac up from the party. Wes and I worked on completing the gifts for his office partners (more on that later) and getting a quick dinner ready for the kids.
7:00 pm Wes took Addie and Isaac to their piano recital. They each performed well and then left early to come home to meet the babysitter. Mom and Dad were off to Dad's office party. More good food and good friends. And a few laughs. Wes was voted "the doctor most likely to eat you out of house and home". His award was a can of Spam.
9:30 pm Home. Exhausted. Happy.

What a day! I hope to see the a movie of the performances.
We had an opposite Saturday. Home doing chores and Christmas cards, then to a Christmas Open House. On our way there we decided to turn around and come home because of weather.
December is one big whirlwind.
We missed the snow...
I think (as per a recent discussion) part of developing talents is simply a matter of dna. It looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I'm laughing because I believe Miss Smoot Robins is married to a friend I went to high school with in St. George (Connor). I think I met her when I was in St. George in the summer at a local restaurant. Anyway, small world. Addie looks so grown up. I still remember when she would pretend to sing the church hymns and she would do that vibrato with her voice. Ahh! What I would give to hear her sing now.
Wow...I have never heard of a busier day! I would LOVE my girls to take voice lessons from Mindy. I think we took from the same voice teacher growing up...My girls were born to perform. It is non stop at our house!
What a great day though! Well worht it. Addie looks like a little Emily coming up. I wish we lived closer too so we could be part of eachother's lives more.
