One Monday morning last October, I decided to have a donut party - that very night. With the help of my kids, my friends and my family (oh and my local grocery store who sold me 12 pounds of donut dough) - we somehow pulled it off. It was such a success that we decided to make it a yearly event - Donuts in the Driveway. This post tells the tale (it's actually pretty funny how it all happened) - and my one regret was that I didn't get any pictures. Well, this year I was better about taking pictures - but still not enough of the people and just one of the donuts!
Last year we had about 60 people and served 100 donuts. This year we had about 100 people and served close to 300 donuts!! Thanks to the family and friends that helped make it a success - the donut rollers and cutters, the donut cookers, the babysitters, etc. And I must give a special thanks to my kids! They worked so hard by my side all day to get ready. I really could not have done it without them!
We bought an outdoor heater to ward off the autumn chill
The pictures of the crowd are a little fuzzy - and of course I only remembered to take pictures after it was dark!
Wes and Kip were the trusty donut cookers!
Hooray for another fun Donuts in the Driveway!

This year we bought 17 pounds of donut dough.
The serving table with all the yummy toppings for the fresh-out-of-the-fryer donuts
We had a nice assortment of glazes including maple, chocolate, vanilla, orange, and butterscotch (thanks to the moms and grandmas for helping with those)

Very fun idea. I just love traditions like that. You are quite the Martha Stewart!
Looks like fun, Em! Sorry we didn't make it... just couldn't do it... I'm sure you understand. :) Nik
Emily you need to find a publisher pronto for your fabulous ideas book that I really think you should write. Looks so fun.

I love this!! I loved reading about this last year, and so it's great to have some pics to see this year. How do you do stuff like this without tearing all of your hair out? I think that I might just go crazy, but you're making me dare to dream. and I second Anna on the idea for you to publish a little book with all your fabulous activities and ideas.
What a great idea. 17lbs of dough? Really? I'm glad the store will sell it to you. Hopefully, we'll get to make it to one of them.
We have a friend who would freak out if she saw this. Big donutaholic.
