Art Experience
Yesterday we took the kids to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts to see the visiting exhibit Monet to Picasso. Before we went I gave them a short lesson on art history so they would understand (or at least recognize) words like "impressionism," "cubism," and "surrealism" and we looked at some examples online. We bought tickets online (which I would recommend) and headed for SLC. The exhibit was fabulous! I loved the art - especially seeing less familiar works by Monet, Manet, van Gogh, and Picasso, among others. It was pretty busy but the crowds are managed by the fact that tickets are bought specific for a two hour period. The museum provides a free audio tour that even has a special family track that was great for the kids. The younger ones struggled a bit towards the end, but my older two could have spent much more time in the exhibit - as could I!

I must heartily agree: it was a great exhibit. I loved the Picasso room. I've never seen so many of his important pieces in one place. It was cool to get a feel for the breadth of his career in one shot. I confess, though: I decided to enjoy it without the kids (I may take Josh and Luc after school starts).
I love the paintings you chose to highlight. It makes me wish I'd gone. Anyway, I'm glad the kids had a good experience. I'm sure it helped for you to prepare them for the exhibit. I also think that having a recorded tour that is geared for families is an excellent idea.
I can't wait to go. I am planning on going sometime this week. Thanks for the preview!
We'll have to get down to go see this. Good to see you yesterday!
