Saturday - Sledding Fun and Family Movies

Saturday was a day filled with fun and family.
First, Eliott and Carlee invited us to go sledding. We had a great time - even Sarah Jane. And we were treated to hot cocoa after. Thanks guys!

That evening we hosted a an extended family movie night. My parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles enjoyed watching movies dating back to the mid-1960's through the early 1970's. Not only did we have a lot of laughs at antics and hairstyles - it was really neat to see moving (though silent) footage of my grandpa and other relatives who have passed away. I wasn't alive during most of the movies that we watched - bit I was amazed at how many wonderful and interesting activities we did together as an extended family. What a blessing!

Snow Camping

With all this snow we've been getting, it was only a matter of time until Wes and the kids built a snow cave. But this year - they were so thrilled with their work - they wanted to put it to good use. Friday night Wes and the older two slept out in the snow fort. I was happy to stay warm and cozy with the little ones sleeping in the house but I did crawl in to get some pictures of the snow campers.

Chilly!!

Christmas "Eve" - 2008

We had our annual Christmas Eve party at my mom's house again this year. Another wonderful event with delicious food, fun and meaningful activities and time spent with my favorite people in the world.

Addie eyeing the presents. Look closely and you can see my parents' Christmas tree in the foreground. Yes - their tree was a little sparse this year but it definitely made an impression. Cate kept asking, "But Grandma, where is your real Christmas tree?"

The theme of the program this year was "Gifts." Papa spoke to us about the gifts of the three wise men - gold, frankincense and myrrh and he showed us examples of each and told us why they were so valuable. It was really neat!

Then we received our own container of the three gifts to take home! Cool!
"We Three Kings!"
As part of Christmas this year, my parents gave each grandchild a small amount of money that they were to spend on some sort of service to someone less fortunate. Then each child told about what they did - some donated to charity and some gave secret presents to classmates that needed a friend. It turned out to be a very nice experience for them
Grandma talked about how gifts don't have to be expensive and how some of her most treasured gifts are drawings that the grandchildren made for her, stories they wrote or these two rocks that Jack and Cate gave her at our summer family reunion.

Isaac sang "Away in a Manger" and accompanied himself on the autoharp. "Jingle Bells!" accompanied by J on the drums.
Addie sang while Cate danced a fuzzy dance (sorry). She was completely oblivious when SJ joined in.

Another sweet nativity scene.
She loved being Mary and told me firmly after it was over, "I am not ready to change into my clothes!"

Merry Christmas!

Dialogue of the Birthday Party

Grandma Jan and Great-Grandma Eldine were nice enough to provide a wonderful dinner for the party - cake and all!
"Happy Birthday to you!"
"Kids! Come help me blow the candles out!"
"Hey Grandma - truth or dare?!"
"Jump!"
"Jump!" Anyone who knows Wes knows he likes to jump over things - cars, garbage cans, the kids (!), countertops, etc. The kids are in training.
"I love your drawing of The Three Amigos movie!"
"...and the bike tool!"
"Thanks Isaac!"
"Non-skid kneepads! Just what I wanted!"
"Thanks Addie!"
"100 Grand! My favorite candy bar!"
"Thanks Cate!"
"Want a piece of me?!" Eliott surprised Wes with his old Rambo knife from their childhood days. He was thrilled!
"Here you go Addie - you can play with this blade..."
"Grrrrr!"
"A picture of Moonbeam's kittens! Is this the picture of them licking up a chemical spill in the basement?"Thanks for a great party everybody!
