We decided to go for a "Sunday Stroll" up the canyon to hunt for wildflowers and other treasures. It was a little early for the flowers although we did find a few. But it was beautiful none the less. We really do love the mountains in all their glory.
Springtime in the mountains is full of life! We ran across several nests of hatching caterpillars.
There were tons of these empty snail shells that the kids collected.
A few blooms...
I wasn't fast enough with the camera to catch two courting ruby-throated hummingbirds that were whizzing past our heads. We were literally ducking to dodge them! We also saw signs of elk.
We did a little fossil-hunting in the limestone shale and found a couple of cool ones.
So fun to be outside!

How cool, Emily! Sounds like a fun afternoon activity. I'm impressed that you guys are so observant. If we lived in the Old West, you would certainly make excellent trackers.
Wow! Fossils! Sounds like a great Sunday Stroll. I wanted to go on a stroll, but had a meeting, darn it. Is that trail/canyon by your house? Aren't we so lucky to be surrounded by such amazing scenery.
I agree with Kip. I love the example of Anne Sullivan (sp?) who was Helen Keller's teacher. She believed strongly in getting out and experiencing the real world. And, wow. The treasures are there.
Emily, where was this? It doesn't look far, but I can't place it. It looks like you had a great time!
When you go for a Sunday stroll you don't mess around with a little walk around the ol' neighborhood.
I think you guys are great explorers, always have been. What most people up and pass by you find rare beauty. Especially that Addie! She belongs in a jungle with only her knife.
I miss the Utah mountains! That looks like so much fun. All the kids appear to be having the time of their lives. Sweet.
